Hampton Small Boats Head 2018 – Women’s Junior Pairs

The Hampton Small Boats Head course runs 3000m downstream from Sunbury Lock and is the first of the two major events held by Hampton School, the other being the Fours and Eights Head which generally takes place in January. This year the entry for the W Sch/Jun 2- is rather small, with only five crews entered, though it appears this is a category which is often rather low on numbers. It is also slightly difficult to make predictions for this category, partly as only one of the rower’s names is published, however it looks to be an interesting event.

Emanuel School BC – Rosenberg

Rosenberg raced in the J16 4x at 2017 Henley Women’s Regatta and also in the J16 G 8+ at 2017 National Schools Regatta where the crew came 3rd in the semi-final, making it to the A final, where they came 6th overall. There are no further results for Rosenberg, nor any information on her performance in the pair, so it is difficult to provide a prediction for this crew.

Surbiton High School BC – Williams, Spurling

Surbiton High School BC has been very successful with their girls so far this season, picking up a fair few wins at local races such as Teddington Head. Williams raced in the W4x- at 2018 Teddington Head, coming 2nd. Spurling raced in the W4- which won at 2018 Kingston Small Boats Head. She also raced in the J16 G 8+ at 2018 SHORR, where the crew came 2nd overall. Again, lack of available results makes it difficult to create a very comprehensive profile for the crews.

Lady Eleanor Holles BC – Crees

The only past racing information on Crees is that she stroked the J16 4+ at 2018 Henley Women’s Regatta, which made it to the quarter-finals. Lady Eleanor Holles School did well last season, taking multiple boats to races such as Schools Head and the Junior Sculling Head and medalling within many of these events.

Walton RC – Panose

Anya Panose appears to have recently switched to Walton RC from Twickenham RC. She raced in the time trials in Ch G 1x at 2018 National Schools Regatta and also in the WJ16 1x at 2017 Reading Amateur Regatta. Panose also raced and won in the W2x at 2018 Weybridge Silver Sculls and raced in the WJ18 2x with Twickenham RC’s Jade Lindo at 2018 Walton and Weybridge Regatta. It will be interesting to see how this pair fares, as most of Panose’s past racing experiences at least seem to have been in sculling boats.

Predictions:

I feel it’s slightly unfair to make a prediction for the race due to the lack of results for the majority of the crews entered. However, based on general club success rates, I’d imagine that the Surbiton crews will probably perform well, with potentially a strong race from the Lady Eleanor Holles pair as well.
