Hampton Small Boats Head, held on the Molesey stretch of the river Thames is a 3000m race that attracts clubs from all around the Thames Valley area and beyond. This year sees a comparatively small field of junior men’s quads, however, this does mean this race is open to all 6 of them. So we are definitely in for an exciting day of racing.
Team Keane Sculling School
Leading off the field is Team Keane, stroked by Russell-Thompson this looks to be the same crew that recently competed at The Fours Head where they finished 33rd. However, it’s important to note that the times for this event were all incredibly compact meaning a small improvement would have boosted them up many many positions. With this in mind, I would not say it is out of the question for Team Keane to be in the mix for the win on Saturday.
Lea Rowing Club
Certainly one of the favourites coming into this one, Lea has had some strong junior men’s crews over the past few seasons and this year is no exception. Going off 2nd in division 1 they will be hunting down Team Keane undeniably looking for an overtake. Finishing just 3s behind High Wycombe at The Fours Head it’s clear that both these crews are very evenly matched and we are in for a close race!
Emanuel School Boat Club
Emanuel School is the dark horse in this event, with no significant results to go off it is hard to predict their form coming into this race. With 2 crews entered I am confident that they will be both looking to claim the top internal spot . Could they come out of nowhere and surprise us all? It is certainly possible, we shall have to wait and see on Saturday
Royal Grammar School High Wycombe
Another one of the favourites comes in the form of RGS High Wycombe, very similar in speed to Lea this is for sure going to be a tight one. Sat in the stroke seat is R Flanagan who I am sure is looking to set a solid rhythm and secure the victory whilst also confirming their dominance over the Lea junior men’s squad.
Predictions
Lea and RGS High Wycombe are likely to be battling for 1st and 2nd place, however, I would very much expect Team Keane to be very close behind them, and even potentially snatch a 2nd or even a 1st place. Although Emanuel School is relatively unknown, I am not sure they will be mixing it up at the top come Saturday, but you never know. Good Luck to all racers!
