Hampton Small Boats Head 2024 – Women’s Junior 16 Singles Preview

Update: Since this preview has been written, Hampton Small Boats Head has been cancelled.

Peterborough City Rowing Club

The athlete from Peterborough has had a successful rowing career from the start and has a plethora of successes. In the single Chesher won in the women’s junior 14 single at Peterborough Spring Regatta and the women’s junior 15 single at Thorpe Meadows Junior Regatta. Not only a skilled single rower, Chesher has proved she is a talented crew boat athlete when winning gold at Head of the Nene in a women’s junior 16 coxless quad and coming eighth overall in the double at National Schools Regatta 2024. This athlete’s outstanding resumé shows that Chesher could be the girl to beat on the Thames.

Maidenhead Rowing Club

Maidenhead Rowing Club have two entries into this category setting off in second and third place which could lead to some exhilarating racing between Thirakaluthy and Forsyth who have previously raced together. Thirakaluthy and Forsyth raced together in a coxed quad at Junior Sculling Regatta and placed well in the C final. They both have had exceptional performances in other National events too, with C and D finals at the British Junior Rowing Championships and National Schools Regatta. With such good athletes from the same club setting so close I hope to see some fierce racing between these two girls.

Barn Elms Boat Club

Weiler from Barn Elms Boat Club will be one to challenge for the top spot over the 3000m course as she already has impressive results in the single. She has proved herself capable of taking the win after her impressive racing back in May. Weiler placed an outstanding second place in the time trials followed by an impressive fourth place in A final at the Junior Sculling Regatta, narrowly missing out on the medal table. A truly spectacular result!

Pangbourne College Boat Club

Two entries from Pangbourne College Boat Club should lead to some exciting racing for athletes and spectators alike. Both Llewellyn and Robb raced at the National Junior Indoor Championships coming 60th and 13th out of the 148 competitors, showing the power that these girls have. Robb has also demonstrated her speed on the water with her performance at the Junior Sculling Regatta in the Women’s Junior 15 singles. After an exhilarating time trial Robb was able to maintain her position to come ninth overall.

Prediction

I predict that the racing will be close due to the outstanding calibre of athletes racing. I believe that Barn Elms’ Weiler will take the victory, due to her recent performances, over Pangbourne College (Robb) and Peterborough City who will place second and third respectively.
