The Open Coxless Fours category at this year’s Head of the Trent is set to be dominated by two crews from Derby RC and Nottingham RC. It is set to be a great duel between two growing clubs who both can put together a very fast coxless four for this event.
Nottingham RC
Nottingham RC will be looking to win on their home river. A recent 13th pace at Quintin head in the eight shows that they could put together a fast coxless four here. With Derby their main competition it will be a duel between them to see who can take the headship.
Derby RC
Derby was one of the clubs shortlisted for Club of the year 2022 at the British rowing awards. They were very deservingly commended there for the great welcoming atmosphere the club has, particularly to athletes with disabilities as well as the incredible growth the club has had over the past few years.
Derby had some very encouraging results at the very start of the season with their top four coming in 28th overall at Fours Head closely flowed by their second four. With the Christmas break now long gone and building towards Head of the River Derby will be pushing hard to get their hands on the silverware.
Prediction
I reckon that in this two horse race it’ll be the more established club – Nottingham – that will come out on top.
