This week we look to Nottingham for the home of the Head of the Trent. This course runs over 5500 metres and sees strong competition from not only across the Nottingham based clubs, but country-wide competition too. With gentle winds and a low chance of rain, is looks perfect conditions for a head race towards the end of the winter season.
Band 1
As part of Band 1, we have three entries. First off we have City of Bristol RC, a strong club with good history of fours and eights, strong enough to also have a coxed four racing too. Derby RC, with recent events such a fours head these ladies will be well used to racing over the longer winter distances in these crews. Finally, we have Nottinghamshire County Rowing Association, seen to be doing well over the years in the male and female squads.
Band 2
Following behind Band 1 we have the Band 2 boats. With a total of two entries into Band 2, it is important to note that there is still strong competition. For this we see Sheffield RC against the Royal Air Force. Sheffield showing a strong race at the South Yorkshire Head, they will be wanting to continue this onto the band 2 race against the Royal Air Force. However, the Royal Air Force are known for being strong sweep crews.
Prediction
For Band 1, I predict City of Bristol RC coming in first, followed closely by Nottinghamshire County, then Derby. For Band 2, it’ll be tight between the two, however I think Sheffield will just take it. Having said that, all crews will be wanting to catch a good win. Best of luck ladies!
