With the Head of the Trent having been cancelled now for the past three years everyone racing will be very glad to see its return and another chance for some great racing. Quads can be some of the hardest boats to race in a head race as without a cox and going at some speed they can be a challenge to steer and so getting a clear run down the course will be key to beating the competition.
Newark RC
Leading off at the front Newark is the lone Band 1 ranked crew. This should put them as favourites although I’m sure they will be pushed on by the crews starting behind. The club will know the stretch well as it is home waters and so there shouldn’t be any steering mishaps that could upset what should be a smooth run to the finish.
Tees RC
At smaller races like this it is often a great opportunity for clubs such a Tees to really stand out. With two quads entered which will certainly create some fierce intra team competition. A Band 2 win could also very much be on the cards.
Sunderland RC
Sunderland is another smaller club which will be looking forward to the great competition on the river Trent. No doubt they will fancy their chances at potentially wining Band 2. Most of all though this will be an amazing opportunity to enjoy racing on a great stretch of river and to try and hunt down some crews ahead.
Prediction
Newark RC will obviously ‘win’ the Band 1 event however the more interesting question will be whether they come away with the fastest time. Given their CRI ranking this would appear to be the most experienced crew so that’s where I’ll place my money
