The Henley Fours and Eights Women’s Quad event has entries from some of the best sculling centres in the area. With sculling head races less common, it’s an opportunity for these crews to get some race experience and build on their early season form.
Upper Thames RC
Upper Thames currently has a competitive group of scullers who have already produced some impressive results this season. They have two crews entered who have been hard to separate in recent races. At Fours Head their Championship crew placed tenth, whilst their ‘B’ crew won the Women’s Club category in a faster time. This weekend could be an opportunity to mix the crews up and see faster combinations emerge.
Reading University BC
Reading also have two crews entered. Last year they won this event by an impressive 1 minute 11 seconds over Upper Thames, with their ‘B’ crew third. At Fours Head their crews placed ninth in both the Women’s Championship and Women’s Academic categories. Both crews will be aiming to be at the top of the podium this weekend and continue to demonstrate their strength in depth.
Hartpury University BC
A young Hartpury crew are entered this weekend with a number of World Class Start athletes in the crew. This looks to be their first racing outing this season and they can get some valuable experience from the Henley stretch. Their strength and power can’t be overlooked, but they have to sustain this for 3km.
Prediction
Reading will take the top step on the podium, with Upper Thames just behind. Both ‘B’ crews will also be close, with Upper Thames just having the edge on home water to take third.
