Henley fours and eights head is a prestigious race along the world-famous Henley stretch of river. On Saturday, these crews will be battling it out for glory in what promises to be a close and intense race.
Henley Rowing Club
The home crew from Henley will power down the course first, hoping to maintain their position right through to the line. This club have high expectations for the weekend ahead and with a comfortable win in the junior sculling head last year, this crew will give it everything. After intensive winter training, I can safely predict further dominance in Saturday’s race.
Headington School
As one of the leading schools in women’s rowing, the two eights from Headington have a reputation to live up to this weekend. This squad have two solid eights with very impressive results from National Schools’ Regatta last year, suggesting these girls will be in it to win it. We can expect a clean and technical row from these crews, who will both be fighting for the top spots.
Marlow Rowing Club
Earlier this season, Marlow took to the Thames to race the Upper Thames Autumn Head where their A quad came third in band one and their B and C quads produced a one-two in band two. With not many results available for this squad, we can only rely on the club’s reputation of being highly competitive at nationals and I have no doubt this crew will come out fighting for medals.
Hinksey Sculling School
Racing right in the middle of the “Headington sandwich”, this competitive squad will have a tough race ahead. With a varied set of previous results, I think this Hinksey crew could be close on timings but only just missing out on the top spots.
Prediction
I can see a hard-fought battle for the win between Henley and Headington A with the former mentioned coming out on top. In third place, I can see Headington B taking a comfortable middle position and some tight timings between Marlow and Hinksey for fourth.
