With 16 girls quads entered in this years WJ184x-, it is a competitive event. The course is 3km long, so it will be interesting to see how the crews adjust their race plan to fit the slightly shorter head race. Now that we have moved into November, head season is well underway and I am sure these crews will be eager and ready to put down a good performance on Saturday.
Wycliffe College BC
The Wycliffe College girls have already showed their strength in previous head races this year. In their sculls they took the top 3 spots in both the J17 and J18 event at the scullers head, clearly showing their dominance in sculling. Having competed and trained a quad last year, I am sure they will be just as fast together in a quad, as they are in singles. This combination will be difficult to beat.
Henley RC
Another club which consistently performs well. The girls at Henley RC seem to be able to compete at high levels in both sweeping and sculling, last year training two eights, one of which reaching the semi-final of Woman’s Henley. This obvious depth in the squad makes me confident that the 2 quads racing this weekend will be fast and high up the results table.
Stratford-upon-Avon
Stratford-upon-Avon have entered 2 Junior 18 girls quads in this event and despite often being thought of the underdogs, their performance at the Wallingford long distance sculls proves they are a force to be reckoned with. They came 3rd, beating some of the bigger clubs such as Henley BC. With both clubs racing each other again this weekend, I am sure both will give up a good fight.
Prediction
Overall, my prediction is that Wycliffe College will take this victory, however clubs like Henley RC, Stratford-upon-Avon and Wallingford RC will do their best to try close the gap.
