Although Henley Long Distance Sculls might not typically be the most important regatta of a junior rower’s season, the event happens to fall the weekend before fours head this year. This means that the result of this race could actually be quite interesting moving into the fours head on the 12th of November.
I believe that Henley RC, Radley and Marlow will be the most competitive boats in this event. Their programs are the most established and they have the ability to churn out consistent performance year on year.
Last year, Marlow entered their top four athletes into the Fawley challenge cup at Henley Royal Regatta and performed well, losing narrowly to a classy crew from Lea R.C. Their program is strong so you can guarantee that this Marlow crew will be of a high standard.
The Henley crew comprised of O. Taylor, S. O’Connor, D. Crick, J. Yolland seems to be somewhat new lineup. They might lack the experience of some of the other athletes that they’ll be racing, but they’ll definitely have a home advantage!
Although Radley do not usually scull, they are one of the largest and most successful schoolboy programs in the U.K, so I would expect them to be strong regardless. They have both extraordinary talent and depth, which should serve them well.
I would also expect RGS and Canford to feature in this event.
