Henley LDS – J16 4x Preview

Henley Long Distance Sculls is one of those more unique races on the calendar, as not only does it include the legendary Henley course, but the course itself is challenging: starting around a sharp bend before settling onto the famous Henley straight, it is certainly one that presents crews with a unique challenge, but also a small amount of pride, for being able to race on the famed straight .

Guildford Rowing Club – GUI White – (7):

Guildford Rowing club is one those rowing clubs which seems to be building almost dominant crews. This crew certainly has a certain level of status that they carry with them and should put on strong showing on the day, and having already won Wallingford head, there is some level of anticipation for the success of this crew on Saturday.

City of Bristol Rowing Club – CBR Benton – (6):

City of Bristol Rowing Club has been a rising star in the junior scene in the past year having place in a double in the final of J15 2x during BRJC 2021, and it is fair to say the same thing could be expected of the J16 crew boats coming through this year, with two member of this boat making into that J15 2x A-Final during BRJC. It is always interesting to see a new club upset the balance and I think City of Bristol rowing club will have a strong showing here, especially since they are travelling far to make their mark in the Thames Valley.

Royal Grammar School High Wycombe Boat Club– HWG Dean – (8):

Royal Grammar Sch. High Wycombe Boat Club is a boat club that is trying to perform at high level,  and is certainly one boat club that is trying to break the mould, at and having played second at Wallingford head certainly want to make an impact and expect them. To be fighting for the top positions in this head.

Other Crews:

The two other crews competing, Great Marlow School Boat Club – GMS Clayton (5), are from a school with a historical relationship with Sir Steve Redgrave and certainly have the support to do well and should have a strong showing at this regatta, the final other crew competing is Kings School Worcester Boat Club – KSW Dolan (9), Kind School Worcester are another local school trying to break the tradition of the other school boat clubs and will show some strong resistance on Saturday.

My Predictions are:

  1. Guilford Rowing Club – GUI White – (7)
  2. City of Bristol Rowing Club – CBR Benton – (6)
  3. Great Marlow School Boat Club – GMS Clayton (5)
