As the days shorten, the hallowed water remains ever-present and this event will take 11 junior crews back to the famous town of Henley to test their ability up the 3km course.
Tideway Scullers School
Scullers have two crews entered into this event going off 1st and 10th in the division. Despite not reaching the heights of the impressive 2021 crew last season they have had some serious success so far this year, winning with the duo of Regan and Patrick winning the J18 2x on home water, however, whether they can transfer this speed into the quad away from home is yet to be seen.
Henley Rowing Club
The club on home water will be hoping to show their class and re-instate themselves as leaders in the junior sculling field after their unfortunate draw at HRR this year drawn against eventual semi-finalists Claire’s Court and losing a few key athletes to local rivals Leander Club they will have plenty of motivation to go and set the record straight and show their speed.
Great Marlow School
A club that could be an outside bet for the top spots is Great Marlow School. With the local club making the short trip around to the Henley stretch and no race results to date I would keep an eye on what they have up their sleeve.
Maidenhead Rowing Club
Completing the preview for this year’s edition of Henley LDS is Maidenhead Rowing Club. With a Henley final appearance in 2018 against the ever-present Windsor Boys Rowing Club, they appear to have subsequently taken a step back from the elite sculling scene in the older age group and focus on developing their youth. With a 3rd place finish at Wallingford LDS maybe this could be the event to use to state their authority and intent for this season.
Prediction
I would have the win to be contested between both Tideway Scullers and Henley RC with one of the crews from the club on foreign waters to take the win with a race for 3rd place between Maidenhead and Great Marlow School.
