Henley Royal Regatta – Day 3 Review and Saturday Preview (Princess Elizabeth)

32 began 2 days ago, only 4 remain. Suddenly this article of only two races looks slightly smaller than what we have had so far, but no doubt we will be left with quality rather than quantity of racing with these matchups.

Scotch College vs St Paul’s

On this day of the regatta 3 years ago, Pauls and Scotch faced each other. This is the last time that St Paul’s were knocked out of HRR, and no doubt they will be seeking revenge. Both crews did not have as easy a race as they have done on previous days, with ‘free speed, mulleted’ Scotch (yes-that is how they described themselves) having to hold off a number of towel throws from Shrewsbury, and Teddies going all out in their sprint to catch a paddling St Paul’s.

Shiplake vs Eton College

Anybody who tells you who will win this race with confident is playing a dangerous game. We are not gifted with a classic Radley Shiplake matchup as we have in previous years. Eton, to the amazement of Tom George and Ollie Wynne-Griffith in the press box, pulled the W out the bag even after playing a dangerous game with the rudder. When it comes to the Henley course on semi-finals day, it is anybody’s game. We can’t wait to watch this one.
