Henley LDS – WJ15 4x Preview

Head season is finally gaining momentum and the calendar is packed, following last weekends busy racing at Upper Thames Autumn Head, the Henley stretch is once again hosting another head race: The Henley Long Distance Sculls. This year there is a large entry in the WJ15 coxed quads, with 12 boats entered in a local derby, where they will compete for that top spot.

Henley RC

For many years now Henley have dominated the junior women’s rowing, following the success of the senior girls, we expect this Henley WJ15 quad to be fighting for the top spot, especially with the inspiration of the senior girls behind them. The Henley girls will also be advantaged by competing on their home water.

Sir William Perkins’s school RC

SWPS has not one, but 5 quads entered alone, so can we expect to see some great performances from Perkins whilst showcasing the huge depth in the squad. Not only this, but SWPS has an outstanding rowing programme with large amounts of sculling pedigree in younger age categories. With this expertise we expect the squad from Sir William Perkins to produce some table-topping performances.

Wallingford RC

Wallingford, whilst being a slightly smaller programme certainly has a great possibility of achievement at the Henley sculls. The town of Wallingford, where the club is based is only a few miles upstream of Henley so these girls may have knowledge on the course and stream conditions. The senior girls and boys had an incredible year last year, putting Wallingford back on the map and we hope to see this young crew have a great run this weekend and prove themselves amongst the best of the best.

Great Marlow school BC

Great Marlow is another local club a few miles downstream of Henley and one of the only state school boat clubs. GMS over recent years have been punching above their weight, following a successful season last year for the senior squads these wj15 girls are going to want to prove themselves in this large field of entries.

Stratford-upon-Avon BC

Another smaller club Stratford-upon-Avon have entered two quads both hoping to reach the top next weekend the entry of two quads clearly shows a competitive squad, it will be exciting to see how they do.

Prediction

Overall, it will be interesting to see which boats pick up the top spots of the WJ15 quads, which boasts famously-fast club-names, especially when we consider this may be these athletes first race.
