Aspirational Academic Eights:
Newcastle Uni vs D S R V Laga (NED)
The familiar colours of the Newcastle blue star blades came storming past the enclosures, but with only a half a length lead on the crew from the Netherlands. This changed significantly however, and the crew from Newcastle extended their lead and took the win.
Durham Uni vs A.A.S.R Skoll (NED)
After their display of strength yesterday Durham looked strong coming into the racing today. By the quarter mile marker, they had half a length lead on their opponents. The Dutch held on however and not let Durham extend their lead too much. This was an exciting race but it was ultimately the crew from Durham that took the win.
Oxford Brookes vs Clark University (USA) America
Brookes led off the start and were already pulling away by the end of the island. The Americans did not let them get away and did their best to keep them in their sights. By the barrier however, the Brookes crew had a length lead and continued this until the end.
NUI Galway vs AWPI Crew (USA)
Galway had a significant lead already by the quarter mile marker and managed to stay ahead all the way through the barrier. The Americans did not let them pull away and Galway only just moved clear of their bow ball by the end.
Aspirational Academic Coxless Fours:
K. S. R.V Njord (NED) A vs Imperial College
As the weather closed in it was just the academic fours to go, and these two crews were off the start line first. Coming away from the island, it was the dutch crew that were striding ahead. There was not much the crew from imperial could do as they kept extending their lead, coming across the line to take the win in a convincing manner.
University of London vs Newcastle University
Both crews had a strong start, and it looked as if Newcastle got out of the blocks slightly quicker, but UL did not let them get away and they two crews got slightly too close together as they came to the barrier marker. It was the UL boat that put in the better push towards the end and they were victorious overall.
Oxford University vs Oxford Brookes
In a battle of the Oxfords, this was certainly set up to be one of the best races of the day and both crews perfomed well. It was very close all the way up the course, with Oxford uni in the dark blue just inching ahead as the two crews came to the barrier. They managed to extend this lead and pushed away from the very skilled brookes crew to cross the finish first.
K S R V Njord (NED) B vs Cambridge Uni
The second crew from this dutch university and they looked equally as strong. They stayed in touch with the blue boat from Cambridge as long as they could and at one point looked as if they might even pull through to win. In the end however, it was the Cambridge boat that secured the win.
