Henley Women’s Regatta 2022 – Junior Doubles, Sunday

Quarter Finals:

Tideway Sculler Sch ‘B’ vs Wycliffe Juniors

These two crews were pretty evenly matched and as they came through the island neck and neck, there wasn’t much in it either way. Both clubs have good sculling reputations but it was Tideway that had the edge coming through the barrier. Wycliffe did not let the run away with it and put in a good push. Ultimately however it was not quite enough, and Tideway secured their place in the nect round.

Sir William Perkin’s Sch vs Tideway Scullers Sch A

Another Tideway crew took to the river for this race, although the result ended up being slightly different. Perkin’s had the better start and took the lead straight away, opening it up to clear water by the quarter mile marker. This was then extended to two lengths as they came through the finish.

Sydney Rowing Club, (AUS) vs Hartpury College

The only international crew in this category and they have travelled a significantly long way to race this weekend. They had a canvas lead off the start and this lead only extended, proving why they made the trip over. The Hartpury crew put in some good pushes and did not let the Aussies get too far away, but the crew from Sydney prevailed in the end.

Shiplake College vs George Heriot’s Sch

A slightly tighter race for these crews, with a lead being opened up by Shiplake from the start. The Scottish school did not give up and stayed in touch all the way up until the halfway point, giving the Shiplake crew something to push off as they came through the finish about half a length in front.

Semi Finals:

Tideway Scullers Sch vs Sir William Perkin’s

There was nothing between these crews as the came into the quarter mile marker and Tideway put in an early push to try and make a move, they couldn’t quite get away from the Perkin’s crew and they carried on side by side as they rowed through the barrier. Tideway was just inching ahead about halfway down the course and they went for a big push. They only managed to just hold on to their lead and it was a very tight final 100 meters, but it was Tideway that was successful.

Shiplake College vs Sydney RC

The crew from Sydney came storming off the blocks and took an early lead of about half a length. They looked as if they might have gone too quick too soon as Shiplake responded with a good push. It wasn’t enough however, and Sydney continued to extend their lead throughout the race until they crossed the line with a decisive win.

Final:

Sydney RC vs Tideway Scullers Sch

It has been great to see the Australian crews make the trip over, and these girls have had a very good regatta. The typically strong Tideway scullers crew have not disappointed this weekend as well and they were bound to put up a good fight. Coming down past the boating pontoon the Sydney crew had the advantage but both boats were rowing exceptionally well. The Aussies had a length of clear water but the Tideway girls did not give up and put in a big push to gain some ground. But it was the crew from Sydney crossed the line first.
