Quarter Finals:
Shiplake College vs Warrington:
Coming off the back of a very successful season last year, and this year, this Shiplake crew was ones to watch coming into this race. They had an almost length lead which they continued to extend as they came down the course and they took it down as they crossed the line. The question remains whether this crew will be able to replicate the dominating season they had last year, but so far its looking good.
Marlow vs Lea RC
Another crew very familiar with this stretch of the Thames, Marlow took an early lead out of the blocks and moved over a length away by the barrier. Marlow didn’t take the rate down until they were past the barrier, but they had a very strong lead as they crossed the line.
Kingston BC vs Wycliffe Juniors
This race ended just after the island with a very quick decision to disqualify the crew from Kingston for getting too close to their competitors immediateky off the start. Wycliffe will advance to the next round without a tough race.
Henley RC vs Sir William Borlase
Another race with some very interesting steering straight away, with Borlase getting two or three warnings immediately off the island and narrowly avoiding a blade clash. Slightly concerning steering was the theme of this race, and there was a few more times that the crews almost came together. Henley began to take the lead however by the barrier and continued to extend this as they came across the line.
Semi Finals:
Shiplake College vs Marlow
This was set up to be a very strong semi-final in this junior quad category, with both clubs and crews have a very impressive reputation. As the rowed away from the start there was nothing between them and both crews were responding well to the pushes from their opponents. Shiplake had a canvas lead by the barrier and were fighting hard to maintain this. Marlow put in an excellent push and took back some of this lead but it was the Shiplake crew that emerged victorious.
Wycliffe Juniors vs Henley
After a dramatic quarter final for the crew from Wycliffe I’m sure they were raring to go coming into this race. They had the lead from the quarter mile marker, but Henley was not letting go and stayed in touch as much as they could. By the halfway point Wycliffe’s lead had not extended by too much with both crews really driving it all the way to the line.
Final:
Wycliffe vs Shiplake
The junior quads here at HWR are not only one of the most exciting categories to watch, but they have the added tension of the Diamond Jubilee event at Henley Royal looming over their heads. Both crews have done more than enough to prove that we will no doubt see them again next week and this race was certainly one to watch. Coming off the start and away from the island it was it absolutely neck and neck but Shiplake put in a very good push to take the lead. They had about a canvas of clear water as they rowed through the barrier
