Henley Women’s Regatta 2022 – Junior Sculling events, Saturday

Junior 2x:

Trentham vs Wycliffe A:

The first of the junior doubles to come down the course and they were very evenly matched, Trentham were rowing very efficiently but it was Wycliffe who had just inched ahead by the barrier. They had continued to push away and stayed ahead but Trentham put in a brilliant final push but it was unfortunately not enough to take the win away from Wycliffe.

Maidenhead vs Tideway Scullers A:

Maidenhead had an excellent start and pulled away and by the quarter mile marker they had maintained their lead. By the barrier however, it was neck and neck with Tideway putting in a strong middle section of their race, it was just enough to take the lead back from their competitors and extend it to a length.

Reading RC vs Hartpury Coll:

It was Reading rowing club who had the convincing lead off the island and it seemed as if with each stroke they were pulling further ahead and were a length in the lead by the barrier. However, Hartpury put in a really good push to try and make up some lost ground and succeeded, in an entertaining turn of events Hartpury overtook and stormed across the line first.

Peterborough vs George Heriot’s:

Peterborough had the better start in this race but Heriots stayed strong and kept in contact with their opposition. There was nothing to separate the two crews as they came through the barrier marker but it was Herriot that proved they had more in the tank and they began to pull ahead.  In a fantastic turn over it was the Herriots crew that rowed through to take the win.

Junior 4x-:

Warrington vs Lower Merion HS (USA):

The American crew have travelled a long way for this side by side race, and it was the  Warrington crew that had the lead coming off the island. They moved over into the middle of the river by the halfway mark as they had a lead of about a length. Warrington continued this and took the win.

York City vs Lea BC A:

York had the lead off the start and after a steering warning they straightened up and continued pushing away. Lea put in a well time surge to try and make up some distance. York had to work hard to keep their opposition away and by the halfway point they were neck and neck but it was Lea that had the better push. They continued to increase this lead and came through the line first.

Molesey vs Kingston GS:

Both crews looked very tidy coming past the enclosures, and it was the crew from Kingston that had a slight edge. Molesey moved over into the middle of the course but it wasn’t enough to take the lead off Kingston Grammar, who were striding out to half a length lead by the barrier and walked away with the win.

Rob Roy BC vs William Borlase’s Grammar Sch:

There was a little bit of interesting steering from the Rob Roy crew but they corrected this without too much issue and stayed in touch with their opposition without a clash. Rob Roy put in a very impressive surge forward at the halfway point and completely closed the gap between the two crews and it was a photo finish.

Junior 1x:

Tideway Scullers vs Kew House Sch:

These scullers had tough conditions to row into and it was the sculler from Tideway who had the lead coming off the island and continued to push away. By the half way marker she had a comfortable lead and had taken the rate down.

Hinksey Sch vs Reading Blue Coat:

The sculler from Reading Blue coat had a lead coming off the island, and this lead was continued as they came through the quarter mile marker. She had extended her lead by a boat length by the barrier and came through to take the win convincingly.

Agecroft vs Marlow:

A tighter race than the two before, by the quarter mile marker it was neck and neck. Just when the Marlow girl started to pull away the Agecroft sculler went with her and they continued like this until Marlow made a move and secured the lead.

Reading Blue Coat vs Durham Sch:

The Durham school sculler had already moved into the middle of the river by the first marker and it was a decisive move, but ultimately one that worked and she continued her lead the entire way down the course.
