Henley Women’s Regatta 2023 Preview – The Godfrey Rowsports Trophy for Championship Lightweight Singles

The Godfrey Rowsports Trophy for the Championship Lightweight Single this year has six scullers aiming to win. With a higher entry number than some previous years, this years competition is all the more exciting. With a mix of home and international crews, this is the first real chance for some to get intense one-on-one racing in this ‘Henley-style’ format.

Laura Macro (Dart Totnes ARC)

Laura Macro of Dart Totnes ARC is a previous winner of this category, and she will be looking to get the trophy back in her name again this year. She recently came in sixth at the Metropolitan Regatta on the Saturday in the A final, putting her first in the lightweight category.

Naomi Holland (Upper Thames RC)

The Upper Thames RC sculler is Naomi Holland who recently came in fifth at the Met Regatta in the B final. Having rowed in the Oxford University Women’s Lightweight team, Holland has raced this course and category before. Earlier this season Holland won the women’s lightweight medal in the Pairs Head.

Annabelle Ruinet (Twickenham RC)

For Twickenham RC, Annabelle Ruinet has recently come back from the Duisburg Regatta in Germany where she was representing Great Britain as the U23 lightweight sculler and recently she came in first in B final at Met Regatta. She has seen international events and has performed well under such pressures, so she will be able to bring that mindset into this race.

Others

Also racing this category are Princeton Lightweights (USA) sculler, Emma Mirrer, Oxford ULWRC sculler Rosie Thorogood and Lea RC sculler, C Burley.

Prediction

Overall, I believe the final will be a tough fought race between Laura Macro and Annabelle Ruinet for the trophy. However, I do believe the rest of the races to reach this final will be close and exciting to watch. Best of luck ladies!
