Henley Women’s Regatta 2024 – The Redgrave Challenge Vase for Championship Pairs Preview

Heading to the iconic Henley Women’s Regatta Course are the 14 entries vying for the prestigious Redgrave Challenge Vase in the championship coxless pairs category. This event is certain to be a showcase of exhilarating racing down the 1500m stretch of water.

Leander Club

The pair from Leander Club, Juliette Perry and Amelia Standing, are already seasoned winners. They claimed the Avril Vellacott Cup for championship coxless fours at last year’s regatta and have recently represented Great Britain at World Cup III in the coxless four. Having come away from final trials as the fastest pair, the duo from the pink palace will be firm favourites for the win.

Schuylkill Navy

Travelling from the United States, Schuylkill Navy’s pair of Solveig Imsdahl and Elaine Tierney bring significant international experience to the Henley stretch. They raced the lightweight pair for Team USA at the 2022 and 2023 world championships, making them formidable contenders in this event.

Thames Rowing Club

Thames Rowing Club has entered two pairs in this event, with the standout combination being that of Emilia Crocker and Phoebe Campbell. This duo boasts extensive experience, having won the Pairs Head earlier this season alongside a recent domination of both the Saturday and Sunday races at the Metropolitan Regatta. Their experience and track record make them strong competitors.

Cambridge University Boat Club

Representing Cambridge University Boat Club are Katy Hempson and Georgia Gollogly. Both athletes began their rowing careers at their respective Cambridge college clubs and have since excelled at the highest level. This combination has demonstrated their prowess in the pair by winning the gold medal in the intermediate lightweight pair at BUCS Regatta. Furthermore, their Boat Race training will be invaluable in the similar racing format of Henley Women’s Regatta – potentially giving them an edge over their open-weight competitors.

Predictions

The highly accomplished pair from Leander Club are likely to be aiming for a further Henley Women’s Regatta triumph. Depending on the draw, the combination of Crocker and Campbell from Thames Rowing Club or the international contenders Imsdahl and Tierney from Schuylkill Navy could challenge them in the final.
