Henley Women’s Regatta is soon approaching, taking place on the 21st – 23rd of June. It takes place on the famous Henley Royal Regatta course – yet the race itself slightly shorter, with it being only 1500m instead of 2112m. In this Junior 16 coxed fours competition there are 27 entries, making it extremely competitive this year.
Godolphin and Latymer Boat Club
Coming into this event, Godolphin and Latymer Boat Club are perhaps the favourites after their success at the National Schools’ Regatta. They showed an impressive demonstration of strength as their junior 16 coxed four won by 11 seconds. These girls will have been able to use the time in between the National Schools’ Regatta and Henley Women’s Regatta to train and perfect their race strategy to carry on this success. I expect these girls will be hard to beat and so aiming to take the win.
Henley Rowing Club
These girls from Henley Rowing Club are no strangers to putting out a dominant performance. Having won the junior 16 eight at the National Schools’ Regatta by two seconds, they have showed a winning streak that they will be hoping to transfer into the coxed four. With the event taking place on their home stretch, these girls must use that advantage when practising to deliver another stellar performance. Especially in such a young age category, I expect the experience of the HRC cox to be disproportionately beneficial and to put them in a good spot to challenge Godolphin and Latymer for the win.
Wallingford Rowing Club
After winning this event last year, Wallingford Rowing Club will be looking to maintain their winning streak. They came second at the National Schools’ Regatta, despite leading for the first 1000m, and will certainly be out for revenge this weekend. At the 1500m mark, they were only down by 0.3 of a second. This will stand them in good stead for the weekend when the race takes place over 1500m. Moving into the coxed four, the girls should continue to push on to challenge the fierce competition.
Other Notable Mentions
Other notable crews include Headington School Boat Club, who came third in the junior 16 eight at National Schools’ and so will be looking to improve upon this result. It is important to note that Green Lake are coming from the USA, and by travelling all that way they must be aiming to make their trip worthwhile.
Prediction
I predict that there will be some excitingly tight race between all 27 crews entered into this category. However, it seems likely that the final will be between Godolphin and Latymer Boat Club, and Henley Rowing Club, with the former taking the win.
