Peterborough City R.C v Shiplake
Peterborough did what I think anyone would have done in their position, they went out hard and then tried to cling on. It was the only way to give Shiplake a bit of a scare and at one point they even had a fractional lead, but Shiplake quickly put that to bed. They stayed calm and collected and took the lead back inch by inch, by the Fawley marker they were ahead and looking sharp despite rowing into a headwind. As the crossed the line, again doing their square blade exercise they were rowing at a smooth rate 24 and had extended their lead to almost four lengths. Peterborough should be pleased with their performance against the crew that looks a sure bet to win this whole event.
Marlow R.C v St Edward’s School
Both crews got good starts but by the end of the Island Marlow were already ahead and continued to pull away, Teddies lost touch with them by the first marker. By Fawley, Marlow were three lengths ahead and looking impressive whilst doing it. They came across the finish with a decisive five length lead and at a steady rate 25 showing that they really were the better crew. Teddie’s have had a great few days of racing however, and have shown some serious tenacity throughout.
Sunday racing:
Shiplake College B.C v Marlow R.C
This is a repeat of the final at Henley Women’s a month ago and also a repeat of the entire season really. These crews have met each other many times this year, so the sight of each other as they look across at the start will be very familiar. That being said, I predict the result will also be very familiar- Shiplake will take the win. They have made this week look easy, coming across the line always looking smart and very comfortable, it’s hard to imagine they will fall at this final hurdle. Based on what I have seen so far from this week, and the season as a whole, I think Shiplake will be aiming to go for the course record which was set by Y Quads in 2018. Whether or not they will get there is another question altogether, but I think they will try and hunt it down.
