Saturday Review
University of Washington, USA vs. Durham University ‘A’
As the second race of the day, this crew enjoyed some of the best of the overcast, choppy conditions. Although Washington took a narrow lead for much of the race, the crews were very well matched. Durham received three warnings for steering which may have cost them valuable distance. Washington kept up a consistent slight lead with ‘tighter bladework,’ as the race report described it, which ultimately landed them the win.
Oxford Brookes University ‘A’ vs. U. S. R. Triton, NED
Another close race here, since the leading crew varied from the start to the end of the race. Triton made a valiant effort in their push at the start, gaining a short lead on Brookes whose start may have been hindered by the headwind. By the Barrier a determined push from Brookes set them in the lead, pulling fully away from Triton at Remenham. They managed to extend their lead to over a 1 ¾ lengths by the finish, confirming this as a solid win for Brookes going into the final tomorrow.
Sunday Preview
Given their more defined win and quicker raw time today, I think Brookes A have the advantage in tomorrow’s final, though better conditions may help Washington make up some time. Brookes managed to really open up in the final minutes of the race, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this was repeated.
