Marlow Rowing Club vs Hartpury College
We always knew that before this first race of the Fawley, Hartpury is always going to be sharp and thats what they delivered. Hartpury led this race right from the start and kept their consistency throughout the race. With Marlow having a J15 in their boat they fought well against Hartpury and will be one to look our for the future.
Hampton School vs Tideway Scullers School “B”
Off the start, past temple island, Hampton and Tideway were bowball to bowball with eachother, as the race progressed Tideway showed their depth and started to edge out in front of Hampton. As Hamption was looking particularly smooth, they didn’t have enough speed to catch the Scullers of the Tideway.
York City Rowing Club vs King’s School Worcester
York City getting just under a boat length ahead off the blocks. A disruption of heavy wash made their speed reduce slightly, which made the Kings School catch up to their opposition. Coming into the Final stages York City manage to keep their lead and head into Thursdays racing.
Northwich Rowing Club vs Exeter Rowing Club
The National Schools re-match of 8th and 9th place, before the race everyone knew that it was going to be close. But with the sub of Ed Fuller at the 3 seat for Exeter, gave them a real boost in speed for them to lead the whole race and win by a very significant margin. Exeter would definitely be an underdog crew to look out for this week.
George Watsons College vs Hereford Cathedral School
Arguably one of the best races of the day with both crews being level all the way down. With the Hereford boys only being J16s it was very impressive to see them being this close to a J18 crew. Through to the later stage of the race George Watsons had the slight edge over Hereford, this is probably because of the greater strength and experience George watsons have.
Claires Court School vs St Andrew Boat Club
With St Andrew Boat Club coming up against the champions of 2016, they manage to get ahead of the first half of the race. With every stroke St Andrews lead grown and grown away from Claries Court. St Andrews move really nicely pass the barrier and Fawley, looking really efficient and smooth. St Andrews progress into Thursday easily.
Star Club vs Windsor Boys’ School “B”
Off the start and past temple island and its level, bowball to bowball. As star club start to lengthen out, Windsor start to slowly edge out into a comfortable lead. Windsor looking very slick and very efficient as they head through Fawley. Star Club looking smooth but not enough to hold onto the Windsor crew. It will be very interesting to see how far this B crew will go throughout the week.
Overall, an exciting day of racing. It will be very interesting to see who comes out on top tomorrow.
