This is your Friday briefing covering all the action at Henley Women’s Regatta. Here you’ll find a brief look at today’s racing, as well as predictions for tomorrow’s action.
Junior 16 Quad Sculls:
A few surprises here, with some crews with less readily available evidence on which to make predictions getting into the quarter finals — their lower profiles seem to have worked to their advantage. Henley RC, as predicted, rowed well and secured a place in the next round, as well as Kingston Grammar and both Scottish Argonauts boats that were mentioned in the previews. The rivalries are sure heating up as we get into the second day of racing.

Junior 16 Coxless Fours:
An unexpected entrant has stolen the top spot from the predicted challengers. Yarm School, who have been recently on the rise in junior women’s sweep took the top qualification spot ahead of favourites Surbiton High School (who themselves were still able to qualify 2 boats into the top 8). I was surprised to see Lady Elanor Holles miss out on qualification, although based on publicised times, it was a close match at the top so I anticipate some close quarterfinals, in spite of seeding. The small field will move forward onto Saturday racing, dominated by the usual big school names: Latymer, St Pauls and Wimbledon, as well as Henley RC, who will proudly fly the ‘club’ flag as a top 4 seed. After the shock shakeup, it is hard to predict what tomorrow will bring, however I believe Yarm will continue to lead the way, with Henley close behind the rear.
