The J16 coxless fours will be an interesting event to watch Sunday with the majority of the crews having trained predominantly for the Champ J16 8s on Saturday. This event will indicate which crews are potentially capable of making the GB vs France team later this season.
St Paul’s School
St Paul’s are one of the premier crews entering this event having shown good speed at Wallingford Regatta when they won. However, a lot can change over only a few weeks and their fourth place finish in the eight at Wallingford indicates that there are potentially faster crews out there.
Abingdon School
Abingdon are one of the favorites to win the J16 Champ 8s on Saturday having won the J16 8s at Wallingford. However, speed in the eight, a boat which can often hide some technical issues, does not necessarily correlate to speed in a four.
Westminster School
Westminster have had a good season so far in the eight having won School’s head back in March and taking 3rdplace at Wallingford in a very tight race. With Westminster having the home water advantage at School’s Head it will be interesting to see if they keep their momentum going to produce a strong result on Sunday.
Radley College
Radley are looking like strong contenders for the J16 coxless fours, having shown good speed at Wallingford and a recent win at Bedford regatta. Despite a disappointing 7th-placed finish at Schools Head it looks like this much improved Radley crew is capable of racing well this Sunday.
Hampton School
Hampton could potentially be in the mix on Sunday with all the other fours. Their four was only four seconds behind St. Paul’s at Wallingford so are definitely not a crew to write off.
Eton School
Eton could throw up some surprises this year if they repeat the underdog story which was achieved last year by the Eton J16s. If this is the case, then Eton could be in the mix for a medal on Sunday.
