Junior Sculling Regatta 2017 – J18 4x

With seven entries from four clubs, the junior quad event is looking somewhat sparse.  That being said this regatta, only in its second year, does present crews with a reliable speed indicator two weeks before National Schools. Given the challenging conditions reducing racing to just a time trial at Wallingford, the Sculling Regatta could prove to be invaluable side by side racing experience.

Tideway Scullers- ‘A’ Jonas & ‘B’ Lewis

TSS posted the fastest time out of these entries during time trial at Wallingford at the end of April.  This comined with the return of Laurence Joss from international duties in Munich will make the boys from TSS a formidable unit this weekend.  This quartet will look to establish  a string of strong results having emerged from a head racing season they will want to improve upon.  The Sculling Regatta will provide the perfect opporunity for this crew to stamp their authority and sent a message come two weeks time.

Leander-  ‘A’ Crowther & ‘B’ Daniell

Following a dominant head racing season, Leander will have been dissapointed with their result from Wallingford two wekes ago, regardless of conditions.  it is  therefore pivotal that the boys in pink can dominate this event if they are to be considered as potential winners at NSR.  Leander’s second boat have proven to be a crew who can compete with and beat some of the country’s leading top boats.  With only six seconds between themselves and King’s Worcesters ‘A’ crew at The Scullery, this quad can clearly hold themselves against quality crews.

The King’s School, Worcester- ‘A’ Beattie & ‘B’

King’s Worcester are another crew who will look to turn around their performance from Wallingford.  Finshing one place behind and just over two seconds slower than Leander suggests there could be a close tussle between theese crews all the way down the course this weekend.  Due to the lack of side by side racing its difficult to tell which crew will come out on top between them.  In terms of the ‘B’ crew, they finished 13 seconds off the back of the field two weeks ago so its very unlikely to see them challenging the ‘A’ crews that we see in clubs such as Leander and Maidenhead.

St Pauls School- Kaminov

With only two weeks to NSR, it is unlikely this crew features top athletes from the Hammersmith school.  As a result, this crew will struggle to match the speed of the top quads in this event.

My prediction…If TSS are on form they will take the win, otherwise it will be a three way battle between themselves, Leander ‘A’ and KSW ‘A’.
