Junior Sculling Regatta 2022 – Junior 16 Boys Quads

Junior sculling regatta or as its more commonly known, the Scullery is one of the lead up regattas to Nat schools and is one of the build-up regattas to the Summer. One of the very many regatta’s that is held on the Famous Dorney lake, the lake roughly lasts around 2K. While supposedly a straight course, there are a lot of difficult steering to overcome because once there is a crosswind, everything can be thrown out of the pram and crews can find it hard to steering, oddly on this straight course steering matters the most! The crews coming to this event should be of the highest quality and have a chance to prove their mettle.

Windsor Boys School l – WBS-Theriaga – (24):
Windsor boys have had some success over the past season and will want to come into this race displaying their dominance before Nat’s and Henley and they will want to see where they are in comparison to other crews and if they can repeat the success of the previous 2019 Crew which dominated the UK circuit just before COVID. They should be shortlisted for the top 3 if not the winners here.

Team Keane Sculling School – TKC Adeyemi – (29):
Team Keane Sculling School is another one of the Tideway Clubs that seem to want it all, and they are sure to put on a good show here. Their last major quad victory was Hampton Head in 2019 where their J15 4x won. Maybe the same feat can be repeated here… Coached by the same coach it will be interesting to see where they place and should upset the establishment, they should place withing the top 5.

Shiplake College – SHP-BROOKS – (40):
Shiplake college is a rowing club on the rise, with major successes at the J18 level with their WJ18 4x crew winning Schools head, and some major level domination at BRTIchamps last year, they are definitely now a club to look out for on the circuit. Although this crew has not seen a lot of action this year, there would be a clear reason to suspect that this club is about to start, pardon the technical term. Start ‘Brookes-ing’ the junior circuit, it should not be a surprise to anyone to see this crew place in the top 5.

South African Schools – SAS 3 – (42):
This is an entry to note as it is an interesting one. I did not expect to see an international crew so soon after the ending of COVID and it is great to see international crews coming to the local UK circuits to provide some extra competition the the UK schools. It will be interesting to see where this crew ends up, they would not have come all the way from South Africa to compete, expect something interesting from this crew.

Other Crews:
A great thing to see is the large number of old clubs being represented here and it shows that clubs are recovering quickly from COVID. Especially seeing top performing clubs such as as Mosley (Mosley – MBC Anderson – (27) , Marlow Rowing club – MAR Sanders – (25), Henley Rowing Club – HEN-LEN-2 – (28)). All of these crews should place in the top 10 positions and will provide a good fight to the large majority of schools, (Sir Willam Borlase – SWB West (30), Great Marlow School – GMS Cogan (33) and Kings school Worcester – KSW Bladon – (3)), All of these clubs should make the racing really competitive and really fast.

My Predictions are:

  1. Windsor Boys School l – WBS-Theriaga – (24)
  2. Lea Rowing Club – LEA Delport – (26)
  3. Shiplake College – SHP-BROOKS – (40)
