Junior Sculling Regatta 2022 – Junior 16 Girls Quads

Following OJSH, it’s head=racing counterpart, Junior Sculling Regatta is sculling’s introduction to the regatta season, almost a month before NSR for crews to test combinations and their competition alike.

Sir William Perkins School RC

After a successful J15 season in sculling, shown by a 2nd place finish at Brit Champs in the quad, SWPS look have to continued in the same vain into their J16 year. At Junior Sculling Head, also held at Dorney Lake, their top quad finished 2nd by 21 seconds to Henley Rowing Club with a clear 8 second gap to Headington at 3rd. Being the only club from the top 3 present from OSJH, SWPS are set to be heading straight for gold at JSR.

Surbiton High School Boat Club

With many successes in sweep this year, it’s no surprise that SHSBC are competing for a top spot at JSR. Just ike SWPS, they also did very well at OJSH, finishing 5th out of 44 entries, with a 12.5 second gap to SWPS and a mere 0.7 second gap to 4th. While we cannot be sure if the crew remains the same, any changes will only have been made to increase boat speed therefore their result at OSJH gives SHSBC a strong foundation for success at JSR.

Other entries

Both SWPS and SHS have entered second quads who are more than capable of providing other fierce competition to some other first boats. Other notable entries include LEA RC, Maidenhead RC, Wycliffe Junior RC and Stratford Upon Avon BC.

Predictions

I think it’s safe to say the start order for the time trial provides a pretty accurate prediction for the finish order of the regatta – but only time will tell how these 22 crews respond when faced by a 2k time trial and regatta.
