Many junior scullers will be enjoying their first lane race of the year this coming Monday at the Junior Sculling Regatta. With just three weeks until National Schools’ Regatta, the event will be a great opportunity to see the effects of any Easter training camps and where crews stand in relation to each other. With many fast crews entered into the race, it will be an exciting chance to see their speed for the first time this regatta season.
Windsor Boys School Boat Club
As always, Windsor Boys have a strong showing and are looking to retain their title in this category from last year. Putting in an impressive performance at the Oarsport Junior Sculling Head just over a month ago, finishing first by over 12 seconds in their category, Windsor Boys are certainly favourites in the race this coming Monday.
Lea Rowing Club
Lea RC have a large number of quad entries in this event and they are certainly looking to put up a fight for first place in the J16 category. Having come an impressive second place at the Oarsport Junior Sculling Head, it will be interesting to see how the crew stacks up in a 1900m race; a very different style of racing compared to the head races earlier in the year.
Claires Court School Boat Club
Claires Court Sch BC is certainly a crew to watch out for this regatta. Placing only 2.9 seconds off a bronze in March, they will undoubtedly be making an effort to podium this race.
Notable Mentions
Other notable crews to watch out for are Kingston Rowing Club, finishing only 4.6 seconds off of third at the Oarsport Junior Sculling Head as well as Marlow Rowing Club and Tiffin School Boat Club, all of whom are looking to put out strong performances on the course this Monday.
Predictions
It’s almost certainly going to be Windsor Boys for first place, having dominated the competition in March alongside an incredible precedent in this category, but the battle for the remaining podium places is much more tight and uncertain. I reckon we will see a silver medal for Lea RC and a bronze for Claires Court BC.
