Kingston Head is raced over 5.2 km on the River Thames from just outside Hampton Court Palace to Stevens Ait. Only three crews have entered the women’s eights category. However, two crews were separated by just ten seconds at Women’s Eights Head of the River Race (WeHoRR), so we should be in for some close racing.
Mortlake Anglian and Alpha Boat Club
Mortlake Anglian & Alpha were the fastest of these clubs at the Women’s Head of the River Race, placing 76th overall and fifth in their category. In addition, at Quintin Head placed third in its category. If the same crew is racing on Saturday, they should be looking to come home with a win.
Tideway Scullers School
Tideway Scullers School is currently best known for its junior programme. Having qualified for The Wargrave Challenge Cup in 2024, the senior women’s squad can also hold their own. Recently at the Women’s Head of the River Race, their top women’s crew were less than ten seconds off the Mortlake Aglian and Alpha crew – a margin that could be made up this weekend.
Kingston Rowing Club
Based on recent form, Kingston Rowing Club appears slower than the other two crews. At the Women’s Head of the River Race, their fastest boat placed 186th, two minutes slower than Mortlake Anglian & Alpha. However, they will have the home advantage at the weekend, which could help them take the fight to the other two crews.
Predictions
If Tideway Scullers School has entered their top crew, then it is likely to be between them and Mortlake Anglian & Alpha Boat Club, with the latter perhaps just having a slight advantage based on recent form.
