Kingston SBH will be action-packed in the J18 2x with 20 entries from various clubs and schools. The number of entries will be sure to make this event very exciting and we could be in for some close racing. Crews from several of the big rowing schools are attending from Eton to Kingston Grammar.
Eton College
The four Eton College crews are no doubt in a good programme that will mean fast athletes. However, a relative lack of sculling experience may catch them out if the weather does turn for the worst. I would give Eton the title of favourites because of the known quality of the schools rowing and because of the large number of entries.
Kingston Grammar
Kingston Grammar School Rowing Club have entered three crews on their home water. Having been the weakest entry in the championship doubles at Pairs Head earlier this year, they could be looking to prove their speed and I predict there will be a good race between these crews and those from Eton.
Whitgift
Whitgift School boat club have entered only one crew for this packed event. This crew has been entered as Ronte who was in the intermediate double from Pairs Head who placed second just behind King’s College School. This crew could be the same as the Pairs Head crew and if so could be eager to place one step higher and take the gold.
I predict a close race between the Eton College crews and those from Kingston grammar, but I am not ignoring the Whitgift crew which could just take the gold from this close battle. I think the other places will be decided after a closely fought race between Westminster school, Twickenham, Hampton school and Kings Wimbledon, but I am not denying these the ability to take home the gold.
