With nine crews entered into this division, four of whom are racing on both days, there will be no shortage of fierce competition in the Women’s Championship Coxless Fours at Metropolitan Regatta this year.
Tideway Scullers School
Looking to consolidate their results from last years Metropolitan Regatta, Tideway Scullers School have entered two crews into this division. Abbott’s crew is racing only on Sunday but is likely to be in contention for one of the top spots, having won last year’s division. Moreover, Goodall’s crew is entered to race on both Saturday and Sunday. Given Scullers’ success last year, winning the division and placing third and fourth, it’s likely that Goodall’s crew will also be near the top of the results table on both days.
Leander Club
Stroking the Leander four is Goossens, and if the rest of her boat consists of a similar calibre of rowers, it’s very likely that Leander will win the division. Goossens will race Met having won the Women’s Eights at the U23 World Rowing Championships 2019, whilst rowing for the Netherlands. The level of experience and skill demonstrated by Goossens will with no doubt translate to the Metropolitan course and promises exciting rowing.
Cambridge University BC
Cambridge University BC’s entry is a clear threat to the field on Saturday. Placing second in the A final of Metropolitan Regatta last year, their success in this division is evident. Moreover, the crew entered this year is likely to be a composition of athletes involved in the Boat Race, suggesting they will be strong competitors. Badenhorst, who sat at three in the Blue Boat earlier this year, will be part of the four. This bodes well for Cambridge as she recently won the Women’s Championship Coxed Four at BUCS Regatta in May this year. If Badenhorst’s fellow crew-mates from BUCS are rowing alongside her in this four, it’s likely that we will see some serious speed as they pass down the course on Saturday.
Durham University BC
Also racing across both days is a crew from Durham University BC. Morrice was also involved in BUCS earlier this year, placing sixth in the A final of the Women’s Championship Coxless Fours. With this in mind, it’s likely that we will see a strong performance from them across the weekend.
Prediction
Overall, I think there will be incredibly competitive racing across both days. It’s likely that Cambridge and Scullers will be going head-to-head against one another on Saturday, with Leander taking charge on Sunday. This will be an extremely exciting division to watch with every athlete wanting to demonstrate their speed in the lead up to Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.
