The Met regatta next weekend signals we are well and truly in the business end of the season. Known for high quality racing and a chance to weigh up possible Henley competitors, this is a key race in the racing calendar. At this point on the season, many athletes will be relishing the chance to line up next to their key competitors and smash it out down the iconic 2012 Olympic course. Met represents the opportunity to see exactly where crews stand now the regatta season is well underway and after spring training camps.
Thames RC
Thames will be looking to maintain their winning streak in the Wargarve at Henley Royal and the Aspirational eights event at Henley Women’s Regatta, and Met’s club eights category is a good place to start. Thames RC has entered three eights into this category on both days, and none in the championship group, meaning these are likely their top two eights and their top aspirational eight. Coming off of the back of a win in club eights and a second in challenge at Wallingford regatta and a lot of success at WEHoRR, these ladies will be aiming to keep the momentum going for the next two months.
London RC
After missing out on the club eights final at Wallingford regatta, hopefully LRC will fair better in the club category this weekend. LRC has had some success this season, having walked away with the medium club pennant at Women’s eights head. These ladies are one to watch as they row head first into their henley campaigns.
Cantabrigian RC
Only racing on saturday (as they are known to storm down the Peterborough 1km lake on Sunday) are the ladies of Cantabs. Following their sixth place overall in women’s club eights at Wallingford and a very respectable 31st place at WEHoRR, this crew from Cambridge will likely make the A final this weekend, but are unlikely to defeat Thames RC.
Predictions
It is pretty safe to predict that Thames RC will secure the medals this weekend since they are entered as club and the fact they have multiple chances with three eights entered makes this look all the more likely. The exciting racing will be between the likes of Cantabrigian, LRC and Vesta for those additional A final spots.
