WJ15 girls coxed quads
This event features an incredible 47 crews, so racing for the 12 semi-final places will be tight. Previewed below are the crews most likely to make the final and medal positions.
Trafford RC
Trafford dominated the WJ15 quads event at the Junior Sculling Head, winning by over 30 seconds ahead of Maidenhead and Henley. They took another solid victory at JIRR, again winning the WJ15 quad event. These girls know how to win at a national level and will be looking for gold on Friday.
Maidenhead RC
Maidenhead finished behind Trafford at the junior sculling head, taking silver at this event along with JIRR. They finished a disappointing 3rd at Wallingford regatta behind Headington and Henley, but on a good day they can deliver and race well; and have a good chance of medalling this weekend.
Henley RC
Henley certainly have the strength and depth in their junior girls squad and are title holders of this event last year, and after impressive performances at JIRR winning the WJ15 four by 13 seconds and the quad at Wallingford by 10 seconds, they have showed their ability over shorter distances and know how to dominate regatta racing.
Headington
Traditionally a very strong girls rowing school, the Headington A quad beat competition from Latymer and Maidenhead to finish 2nd at Wallingford, improving their 5th place finish at the Junior sculling head. They’re going to have to step it up a pace to catch the likes of Henley and Trafford however, but this is a strong sculling crew nonetheless who should put it a good result.
Latymer Upper School
Latymer have showed their dominance in the WJ15 eight already this season, winning the schools head ahead of Henley and Headington, and finishing 3rd in the WJ15 quads at JIRR. They were in the mix at Wallingford, finishing a few seconds apart from Headington and Maidenhead, so have showed their potential in a sculling boat. Racing for medals will be tough however, so like the other crews a good fight is going to be required.
Other crews to watch: Thames RC, Eton Excelsior RC, City of Bristol RC
Prediction: A close race, but I’m going to say 1) Trafford 2) Henley 3) Headington or Maidenhead
As for the WJ15 2nd quads event I’m predicting a win for Headington with Henley in second followed by Latymer Upper .
