Racing is finally upon us, and so is the National Schools’ Regatta 2021, which will see 25 J16 Quads storming down the track at Eton Dorney in search of the Kingston Cup. As their last Regatta was when they were J14 this will be a big jump for these J16s as they are entered into this Sunday.
Trentham Boat Club – 178
Trentham Boat Club, arguably the most renowned junior club in the UK with decent pedigree in the Kingston Cup with them coming 2nd in the category in 2019. Meanwhile this crew is another outstanding crew from Trentham. This has shown in their many successes in the coxed quad, a 1st in the B final at national schools 2019, then bouncing back with a 1st place at Brit champs in 2019 and when they reached J15, they managed to qualify for JIRR to represent North West but unfortunately the regatta getting cancelled because of obvious reasons.
Hereford Cathedral School Boat Club – 167
With most of these boys making the move from Hereford Boat Club to their school Boat Club, they seem to have developed a greater focus for the sport as they row within their school. Hereford Cathedral School, probably seen as the less known School Boat Clubs in the country, is ready to set their school on the map of rowing as they have developed a focused and very technical crew. There has been no outstanding results from these boys when they were at Hereford Boat Club, this is probably because of them not being entered into any national competitions, but with the recent purchase of a new coxless quad, they go into national schools with a focus and thats to do substantially well.
Nottingham and Union Rowing Club – 181
Nottingham and Union, very renowned for their successes in the girls octuples and eights, we see a boys quad out on Saturday. At National Schools 2019 these boys got a bronze medal in the J14 coxed quad with puts them in poll position for this Saturday. Also they achieved a bronze medal at Brit champs 2019 which shows their consistency going into Saturday also.
Kingston Rowing Club – 183
Kingston Rowing Club, also arguably the most successful club at the ages J14, J15 and J16. This has clearly shown that, this crew as J14 has got gold in the Canterbury Cup at national schools 2019. So again this puts them in clear poll position for a medal this Saturday. With no recent results from this crew I can’t make a sufficient judgement of where they stand against other crews but I’m sure with their placing in 2019 they will come with force.
Prediction
With these boys getting near to no racing since they were J14, these predictions can’t always be easy. This is what I would think will happen on Sunday:
1st – Trentham Boat Club
2nd – Kingston Rowing Club
3rd – Hereford Cathedral School Boat Club
