The countdowns have begun, nerves run high and the stakes are constantly being raised, as the pinnacle of summer racing approaches thick and fast. For many of the 31 crews entered, NSR 2022 will be their last chance to race in the junior circuit at Dorney Lake, and this is sure to prove an exciting race for all!
It seems the event’s organisers have chosen to place their bets on SWPS finishing first, putting them at the top of the start order for the time trial. While their strong performance at Wallingford Regatta puts them in a good space to achieve this result, we must note that there was a notable lack of the Tideway Sculler’s School crew at Wallingford. For a day later at OJSH, the TSS double of Orla Harvery and Alice McCarthy beat the SWPS crew by over five seconds, increasing their lead every 500m of the race and eventually to win.
Also outperforming the SPWS crew at OJSH was the Shiplake double of Megan Hadfield and Maya Jackson, who snatched second place by just over a second. However a look back to Wallingford where a similar situation occured with Wycliffe Junior Rowing Club, who came lost to the SPWS crew by 0.27 seconds, shows that this event is a very competitive one, and results may come down to a photo finish.
Predictions
As NSR is the first time many of these crews are racing eachother, there may be some curveballs thrown in on the day, however it looks promising for TSS who are set to take gold. However the fight for silver appears more dubious, between Shiplake, Sir William Perkin’s School, and Wycliffe.
