National Schools’ Regatta 2022 – Junior 16 Boys Doubles Preview

NSR is back, back bigger and better from the previous Covid year. In the mist of exams we see the committed athletes entering this weekend, the amount of time management and mental resilience these J16s have to go through to be successful is outstanding. With 23 doubles entered this year it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Reading Rowing Club

The Snoxall brothers are back. The 2 siblings from Reading come into this regatta with extremely high hopes for a top spot. This is off the back of a 1st place finish at the Junior inter-regional regatta, winning by an incredible 4 seconds. Then an 1st place at JSR with an even better 9 second gap! The clear chemistry these 2 have is paramount to their extreme success.

Cambridge 99 Rowing Club

Cambridge 99, recently known for their amazing talent they produce in the single Sculls for many juniors. These include the likes of Laura Burton and Edward Gaskarth. These 2 lads will have a lot to live up to this weekend and the rest of their rowing career. With no real recent results to note on, 99 have been quite quiet this season so far. With the clubs immense pedigree they hold within junior Rowing this could lead them getting a medal on Sunday.

Queen’s Park High School Rowing Club

Based on the river dee in chester, Queens Park look for some metal round their neck this year. With a very limited entry this year as a club, it looks like they have entered the crews that could be in with a winning chance. With entries in the WJ15 4x+ and the J15 4+ on the Friday and then an Ch Girls 1x and a Ch Girls 2- entered on the Sunday. This J16 double from chester is no stranger to racing though. The crew of Tom Bamber and James Parlevliet have been rowing together since the age of 12. This amount of chemistry within this boat could lead them to a top 3 finish.

Prediction

With many of these crews having an unknown season so far it is hard to make a realistic Prediction. Having the quad on the same day as the double can maybe prove some surprises in the results. This is my predicted outcome on Sunday:

1st: Reading Rowing Club

2nd: Cambridge 99 Rowing Club

3rd: Queen’s Park High School Rowing Club
