Being one of the event’s to round up Sunday’s racing, such a competitive category may not be expected, but it appears the 26 crews entered are in for a fight.
Although there is a more eclectic mix of entries into this category, some familiar favourites shine through. Particularly with Wallingford Rowing Club entering their double of Emmar Moroney and Niahm McAdden, from stroke to bow, who also raced at Junior Sculling Regatta earlier this spring to finished second. The crew who they lost to by 0.35 seconds, St. George’s Boat Club, will notably not be racing at NSR in this category, leaving Wallingford RC with a strong chance to make moves towards gold. However they may find themselves challenged by Molesey Boat Club, entering the crew of Maia Bentley and Olivia Cheesmur. Both of them have had plenty of practice sculling, racing in singles at JSR – finishing fourth and second in the A final respectively, an impressive achievement for the club.
Prediction
Although there is a lingering sense of mystery around this boat class, renounced by some, this only adds to the suspense around race-day. Many accomplished crews have been entered, and whether Wallingford RC are able to snatch two gold medals from the likes of Molesey BC or Monkton School BC remains to be seen!
