Finally, the moment we’ve all been waiting for, NSR is back for its 76th instalment. Full of fierce competition and close racing, it sure to be an exciting weekend.
Wycliffe
Coming up first in the draw is the formidable Wycliffe crew. This has truly been the best start to the season for Wycliffe. A first place in the Women’s 8 at SHORR, despite a history as a sculling school demonstrates the strength of the training programme and its potential. I am certain that this second quad will have the same drive as those in the top quad to bring home some silverware.
Shiplake
A name synonymous with school-girl sculling is Shiplake. Their high performance across categories throughout the season is a true testament to the strong programme they have built up over the years. With top class facilities, just up the road from Henley, these girls are sure to have put in a real shift coming into the race and will want to bring home some medals.
Tideway Scullers School
Tideway Scullers, coached by Rhona MacCallum (the current GB sculling coach), have entered an extraordinary number of crews into NSR. With a strong top quad, filled with GB trialists and crew members from Worlds and Coupe, I’m excited for the future of this TSS squad. Whether or not they perform today, this will surely be a crew to watch and develop.
Prediction
I’m predicting a decisive Wycliffe win. They have demonstrated the strength of their program across the year and deserve to bring home the silverware. Coming in behind, I’m expecting Shiplake, then TSS close behind. It will be interesting to see how these crews perform in the time trial, and if they choose to prioritize energy or getting a good lane.
