Do not alarm at this club’s location: it’s not Newark in New Jersey, but Nottingham.
This club is the oldest I have written about, having been established in 1873. The club boasts a 12 kilometre stretch of clear water to row on and a strong junior squad. Newark Rowing Club also runs a head race in early December, though predictably this was cancelled due to lockdown restrictions. There has been little news from the club since last March, though this is entirely understandable.
As for results, the club excelled in the indoor championships in December, taking a sweep of three golds and two silvers. Before the first lockdown, they also had a first and third place in the singles at Head of the Nene. In 2019, the (then WJ16) coxed four qualified for the A final — a testament to their efforts. Additionally that year Neve Woodman placed 8th in the Junior British Championships in singles. This shows an up-and-coming junior program!
Regarding their more extracurricular assets, four of their rowers featured on Radio Newark Sport before lockdown to discuss rowing at the club. Admirably, they have strong links to nearby schools.
