With National Schools’ just weeks away, Nottingham City Regatta is another chace for crews to get a 2000m under their belt before what represents the main focus of the season. Somewhat disappointingly, Nottingham City seems to have attracted a very poor entry for the quads as a whole this year, meaning all the quad categories have been combined into a single race. Of the 6 boat race, 2 are listed as J18 crews, so it will be interesting to see how they match up to the more senior crews here.
Northwich RC
A well known face at the junior quads table, the number of medals picked up by Northwich alumni at the recent BUCS regatta is a testament to the programme here. Northwich have recently moved into a new boathouse and this year’s J18 crew seems to be another solid offering. 10th place at the Junior Sculling Head, fastest crew of the day at Northwich Spring, with 6th in the A final at the Junior Sculling Regatta, against some high quality crews bodes well for Northwich, and I would think they will be looking to ruffle some feathers here, in what will most likely be a final race before the National Schools’ Regatta.
Hinksey Sculling School
A crew that have been keeping their cards close to their chest so far this season. They raced a quad at the Junior Sculling Head at the back end of the head season, where they placed 14th overall showing promise, though the quad has not featured so far this summer. Saying that, a double raced at the Junior Sculling Regatta, where they took bronze, being denied silver by 0.1 seconds by Gloucester Hartpury in a humdinger. This shows the potential of the squad, so it will be interesting to see how the quad comes back together at this event.
Predictions
Not a lot to be said here with only 2 crews racing J18. For what its worth I would think Northwich will have the Hinksey crew covered, but both will want to get amongst the senior crews in this race.
