Nottingham City Regatta 2019 – Women’s Junior 18 Quads

Nottingham City Regatta gives all crews a great chance of getting some more racing experience over the 2000m distance ahead of the
National Schools’ Regatta which will be taking place in just over two weeks. The four crews that have entered this quad category will no doubt be looking to add a win to their collections to build confidence going into the National Schools’ Regatta this year.

Northwich Rowing Club

The Northwich quad have had two good results from both the National Scullery Head and Regatta, with a 12th place at the Head and a 2nd in the B final of the Regatta. Along with this they won this category at their own spring head in April. At the Scullery Head they came only two places behind the Shrewsbury crew, hopefully they will be able to carry this forward into this race and challenge the Shrewsbury crew even more.

Shrewsbury School

Shrewsbury had a good weekend at Wallingford Regatta, with a strong 3rd place finish in the final of the Challenge Quads. This is representative of a good season overall from this school, most notably with a 2nd place at Hammersmith Head and then more recently a 10th place at the National Scullery Head. If they can continue this form Shrewsbury have a very real chance of winning at this Regatta.

Latymer Upper School

This is a school that has gone from strength to strength in the last few years and last year at Women’s Henley their WJ18 quad made it to the final of the Junior Quads. This season, they have also seen some good results, at Wallingford they finished 4th and 5th in the final- just behind Shrewsbury School. At the National Scullery Head their quads bagged a 2nd and 6th place. If they can improve on the Wallingford result then this crew is also a strong contender for the win.

Hinksey Sculling School

Hinksey have had a few promising results this season, with a 2nd place in the Junior Challenge quads at Fours Head of the River and then more recently a 6th place finish in the A final of the WJ18 quads at National Scullery Regatta. I hope that this crew can push themselves even further and put down a good time and race at this regatta.

Predictions

It’s hard to call between Shrewsbury and Latymer, but just based off their good result last weekend at Wallingford I think that Shrewsbury might snatch the win, with Latymer close behind.
