Nottingham Head of the Trent 2019 – Men’s Junior 18 Quads

Just three crews are making the trip to Nottingham for the infamous Head of the Trent. This event has previously been used by clubs as a good test of speed and preparation for the big Tideway Races given this course is almost 6 kilometres in length. Looking ahead to this weekend’s racing, it appears to be a relatively open field as there is little information about these crews.

That being said, Bedford Modern School are no strangers to a quad after qualifying a boat for the Fawley back in 2016 and having solid performances since, despite being a traditionally sweep based programme. As such it would not be unreasonable to make them favourites for this category.

It is always more challenging to predict crews from smaller clubs such as Becket and Leeds. That being said, every now and then small clubs offer up the biggest surprises and send out a message to the more dominant clubs and schools. While, it is likely BMS will win this event, anything can happen, particularly on an unforgiving course such as the one that winds through Nottingham.

My Prediction

BMS to win followed by Leeds and then Becket.
