Nottingham & Union is a big name in junior club racing, rowing on the exquisite River Trent and holding some excellent facilities. Noticeable alumni include ex-junior James Forward, who had great junior success with a silver at Junior Champs in the j16 1x, then later on in 2019, a bronze medal in the quad in Coupe de la Jeunesse, representing Great Britain.
Nottingham and Union have a substantial junior programme, catering for ages from J12 up to J18. This is one of the reasons why Notts have a big reputation on the junior scene; simple due to how young they begin to instil boating discipline in their athletes. With the most recent season a national wipe-out, we must look to their results from the 2018/19 season. It is noticeable that they usually tend to choose the smaller boats for their local heads regattas, saving the bigger crews for the national competitions. For example, in 2019 they won the WJ15 8x+ at the junior sculling head, later winning the WJ15 8+ at national schools.
The club’s system is well organised with symbiotic junior and senior programmes, plus an opportunity for alumni and club associates to re-join.
