NSR 2016 to be cancelled?

The largest regatta of the year for Junior Rowers is in serious jeopardy, according to its organisation committee. George Hammond, spokesperson for the Regatta, has informed Junior coaches across the country of the shocking news that National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham has not accepted the Regatta’s booking for 2016 – a triathlon is to be held instead.

Hammond writes, ‘there are very few options now open to us if we are to stage a regatta next year’, with Dorney Lake apparently also being occupied by a Triathlon. Strathclyde in Glasgow or the Docklands in London are available as potential venues for the Regatta, but Hammond noted that a Regatta held at either of these would have to be a ‘condensed event’, with the programme possibly being ‘significantly shortened’. This could remove a significant number of events from the Regatta.

Obviously this is an unprecedented and bewildering turn of events, that could leave a gaping hole in the Junior Rowing year.
