The scullery is a 4km long event which consists of two runs of the Eton Dorney track. The WJ17 4x- category is very competitive with 22 crews entered and the likes of Henley, Marlow, Surbiton, Latymer Upper and Headington competing.
Henley RC
This J17 squad has some very strong athletes moving up from the J16 squad as last year they achieved a first-place position in the WJ16 4x- at National Schools’ and then went on to win the same event at Henley Women’s. It will be interesting to see whether this strength can be transferred to the longer distance pieces.
Marlow RC
This club has had some notable successes in this category over the past summer season. The WJ16 4x- at Marlow last year represented GB in the J16 GB v France match. This course was 1500m long and so these athletes have the power that will be vital in this event to remain competitive.
Headington School BC
The athletes that are now in the J17 squad have had some significant achievements over the past year. The J16 4x- developed some good skills in this boat category as they achieved a 2nd place this time last year and moved through to a closer 3rd at National Schools’.
We expect to see the likes of Henley, Marlow and Headington to be competing for the top places in the WJ17 4x- category but their performances with be dependant on their endurance base and steering abilities.
