Oarsport Junior Sculling Head, more commonly known as Junior sculling head is on the final head events of the year, this head commonly signals the end of the head racing season and is seen as “The Event” for a lot of clubs and schools. It is an interest course and is basically a loop around the Dorney lake, one up, one down. It is definitely a test as the lake can prove to be quite an adversary, especially during the high winds that often plague the lake. Crews that can take Victory or place well here will see the rest of their season unfold in a similar manner.
Windsor Boys School l (Finnis) – WBS – (284):
Windsor Boys should certainly be a favourite to win this race, especially after their results over the past couple of years, they seem to be club wanting to try and prove themselves to the other School Boat Clubs around the country, and after their final win in 2019 seem to want to repeat that. This is a slightly bigger boat class than we usually expect from Windsor Boys so it will be interesting to see how they get on.
Hampton School Boar Club (Puddephatt) – HAM – (286):
Hampton school boat club is one of those interesting school boat clubs, it has been slightly hit and miss for the club over the years and I think they want to cement there place in the racing calendar. With the crew being placed reasonably high up it seems that this crew may be the one for Hampton School Boat Club, and with the hopes of the club resting on them they should put on a good show.
Mossbourne Rowing Academy (Mossburne J15 8x A) – UNKNOWN(MRA(A)? – (287):
Mossbourne Rowing Academy is defiantly one to watch for me personally, this is because of two reasons, one is because it is one the higher up placed crews, and secondly they seem to have splashed on to the scene from no-where and want to prove their worth. They are one of the very few state schools that have a rowing program, and I believe that with the increasing number of state funded schools with rowing program the greater the sport becomes, with more people competing for few seats, It is the “democratisation” of rowing and it something that should be strongly encouraged. I think this crew will be incredible strong and take the fight to the other boat clubs
Other Crews:
Sir William Borlase Grammar School Boat club (Puddephatt) – SWB(285): Sir William Borlase is a rowing club that in 2022 started to put their name on the regional circuit and we should expect a lot from them. Westminster School Boat Club (WEST158X) – WEST – (290): This is a boat club with a lot of history in the big boat and should put on a decent showing. , Yarm School Boat club – Anderson YRM – (288): Coming all the way from North Yorkshire, these boys must having something to prove and therefore they should be ones to watch. Kingston Grammar School – KGS-7 – KGS – (288): A school with mixed results from rowing, and should be fighting near the top end and should put on a decent race down the course seeing they are placed in the top end.
My Predictions are:
- Windsor Boys School l (Finnis) – WBS – (284):
- Hampton School Boar Club (Puddephatt) – HAM – (286):
Sir William Borlase Grammar School Boat club (Puddephatt) – SWB – (285)
