Oarsport Junior Sculling Head 2025 – Women’s Junior 16 Quads Preview

A peculiar race that involves a turn after the first 1800m is attracting many crews from across the country – likely due to them already being in the region for SHORR. Although despite the spread of crews entering, I believe those more local crews will still be taking those top spots – but as always, there could be a surprise crew that seem to appear from no where to beat those big names.

Great Marlow School Boat Club

Setting off first in the category, Great Marlow School Boat Club have clearly been sent as the quickest in their region, with this crew having recently won their Junior Inter-Regional Regatta to represent Thames Upriver in about a month’s time. This shows their strength over those shorter distances, however over the longer head races they don’t seem to be taking those top spots just yet. At Hammersmith Head they only placed fourth with those top spots going to Headington School Oxford Boat Club, Marlow Rowing Club, and Molesey Boat Club.

Marlow Rowing Club

Marlow Rowing Club are certainly ones to watch this weekend. Having placed second at Hammersmith Head by a very narrow margin, they also took a nice win at Wycliffe Big Head earlier on in the season. Their exceptional consistency and peformances throughout the season almost certainly sets them up for a medal this weekend, the question is – what colour will it be?

City of Bristol Rowing Club

The athletes racing in this age group may have heard of the City of Bristol Rowing Club quad, having finished last season off very nicely with a huge win at the British Rowing Club Championships. Their success has continued on into head season, taking a win at Worcester Head, and third at Wycliffe Big Head. However given their recent training at the Performance Development Academy camp, will that have tired them out before the big day?

Molesey Boat Club

Having taken the third spot at Hammersmith Head, Molesey Boat Club are sure to be contenders for the Oarsport Junior Sculling Head. On top of this, they also achieved fantastic results at Kingston Head in the same category. Being part of such a prestigious sculling programme, these girls are sure to have some big names to look up to, and older athletes to be inspired by – which those at smaller clubs may be lacking.

Prediction

I reckon Marlow Rowing Club will be taking the win, having beaten most of these top crews recently at Wycliffe Big Head. Following them, will be City of Bristol Rowing Club who I believe will just ease ahead of Great Marlow School Boat Club due to their strength and confidence from previous national success.
