Oarsport Junior Sculling Head 2022 – Junior 16 Girls Quads

Raced up and down the lanes of Dorney Lake to give a total distance of 3600m, JSH may not be formatted as the usual head races are, but all the racing elements still remain the same. With just over 40 crews entered in this category, it seems many clubs are using JSH as an opportunity to be back at Dorney before regatta season begins.

Henley Rowing Club

While one might expect certain clubs to have a particular affinity for either sweeping or sculling, it seems that HRC are equally accomplished at both. Their proficiency for sculling dates to J15 with stroke of their 1st IV, Freya Weiser, being part of the octuple that finished first by over 30s at Marlow Regatta. This success continues to their J16 season with various HRC boats occupying the top positions at Henley LDS and Wallingford LDS in various boat classes. With all of this taken into account, it is no doubt that HRC are ever the favourites for this race.

Sir William Perkin’s School

Also entering 3 boats into this category are SWPSBC, hoping to achieve what they’ve been vying for since last regatta season and beat HRC to the line. Sandwiching themsleves between HRC A and B boats at Brit Champs, coming second is a testament to their training program which grows ever-more intense for the squad as they grow older under the coaching of Johnathen Keir, director of rowing. Recently the Thames Upriver Regional Trials brought great success to the squad with the WJ16 double finishing first, putting them in the perfect position for selection to the Junior Inter-regional Regatta held later this spring.

Other Entries

Many other notable names have been entered into this category, such as Wycliffe, Headington who recently achieved great sculling sucess at Kingston Small Boats’ Head, Tideway Scullers’ School under the coaching of Rhona Mac and Surbiton who never fail to give HRC a run for their money.

Predictions

It will be no surprise if the HRC 1st boat finishes 1st, and their 2nd boat may very well beat many other 1st boats to earn themselves a high position in the results’ table. Filling up the other top-spots could SWPSBC followed by Headington and other crews mentioned above. Yet, with 45 crews entered in total, an underdog may rise to prove all predictions flawed.
